20 Weeks

How Far Along: 20 weeks

Weight Gain: Gained 6 lbs

Maternity Clothes: In both maternity and regular clothes

It’s not too bad.

Baby Movement:
I feel her move several times a day.

Food Cravings:
Spring Mix Greek Salads and Lucky Charms (can we say empty calories!)

What I Miss:
Feeling rested.

Stretch Marks: None from THIS pregnancy!

Mom-to-Be: I’m doing well. I’ve been having leg and foot cramps every now and then.

Looking Forward To: Letting Anna Kate feel Emmalee move. Getting the hot months over with.

Milestones: Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you'd like your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch. The baby weighs about 10 ounces and is a little over 6 inches long. Your uterus should be at the level of your belly button. The baby can suck a thumb, yawn, stretch, and make faces. Soon -- if you haven't already -- you'll feel your baby move, which is called "quickening."

I know that this looks like a strange picture, but there is a cute story. You are looking at Anna Kate's feet during her bath before we left to go to Baby MaKenna's baby dedication on Sunday. AK has bath crayons that she colors on the bath tub with. I stepped out of the bathroom to pick out her clothes for the day and came back to this. Anna Kate decided to "paint" her toe nails with her bath crayons for the special day that she was about to take part in. Who's child is this? Where does she get these ideas?

Crafty Corner

Over last weekend and one night this week I have been working on a little project that I am quite proud of. I attempt to sew. I’m not the best at it, but I enjoy it. Katie, Kyle’s sister, found a dress that she wanted Anna Kate to wear in her wedding. When I looked at the dress the first thought that went through my mind was, “I could make that!”. I had no idea if I really could or not, but my mind started reeling. One thing that you should know about my mind is that I sometimes work backwards. I look at an article of clothing and begin to deconstruct it piece by piece. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t.
This is the fabric that I used for the dress.
I believe that it worked out this time! I really don’t know though because AK refuses to try it on. I traced the bodice of a 24 month dress that was in the shape that I wanted. I should have paid more attention though because I didn’t realize that the dress had a zipper. Man! I was upset because I had worked so hard and I was going to have to take the whole thing apart. I think I’ve talked myself out of that and if it doesn’t fit I will cut down the back and add a button to fix it. Problem solved!
I couldn’t find a pattern that I liked so I just winged it. Take a look at the finished product and tell me what you think…

I'm pretty stoked about the outcome. There are always things that really bother me when I look at it but I think that's with anyone that makes something that others will see. Now to see if it fits or not!

19 Weeks

How Far Along: 19 weeks (Almost 20)

Weight Gain: Gained 4 lbs

Maternity Clothes: In both maternity and regular clothes

Sleep: I’m having trouble getting comfortable and it’s getting hot. Oh joy, we aren’t even into summer yet!

Baby Movement: I feel her move several times a day.

Food Cravings: Spring Mix Greek Salads and Icee Pops

What I Miss: My back not hurting.

Stretch Marks: None from THIS pregnancy!

Mom-to-Be: I’m doing well. I’ve been having leg and foot cramps every now and then. Allergy season is in full swing and I’m quite stuffy but otherwise I’m great.

Looking Forward To: Letting Anna Kate feel Emmalee move.

Milestones: Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil, and dead skin cells (yum) now coats Emmalee's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.
Anna Kate wanted to feed Chuck and Larry (the ducks)
She poured out the feed and just had to sit and watch them eat it. She definately gets that from her Daddy and Pops.
She is finally not scared to sit in her Barbie Jeep. She even pushed the pedal! We're making progress!

Morning Moments

Most of the time in the morning when I’m home alone with Anna Kate I am saying silent prayers that Anna Kate doesn’t wake up while I’m trying to get ready. If she wakes up before I get in the shower she cries when I try to leave her. If she wakes up while I’m in the shower, she comes looking for me. As in, she flings open the shower curtain and tries to get me out of the shower or her in until I give up and get out of the shower. Some mornings, however, are magical.
You know they say it’s the little things in life that mean the most. Well I’ve found that the precious time that I get to spend with Anna Kate in the mornings means the world to me. Morning time is probably AK’s sweetest time of the day if she is fully rested (i.e. if she wakes up on her own). She sits up in the bed calling me name. I used to pray that she would stay asleep until I left so that it would be easier on me. Now I look forward to her little puffy eyes and crazy hair greeting me. Lately we have been potty training in the morning if she wakes up with a dry diaper, which happens often. Then she sits on my lap on the edge of the tub as I dry my hair. She cuddles up next to me and plays with my wet hair. She loves playing with hair, especially wet hair!
Every now and then AK will go into the living room and watch t.v. One morning not too long ago she woke up and walked into the living room. I expected to find her standing by the coffee table, as she normally did when watching a cartoon or something. She was being quiet (if you’re a mom you know that if your child is being quiet it usually means that they are doing something they aren’t supposed to). I walked into the living room to find that she has now learned to crawl into the recliner and that she was relaxing there watching the news. It was so funny because she looked a lot like her daddy.
This morning AK woke up and called my name. I went in to check on her. She was sitting up with her head down when I walked in; then she looked up at me. She had the most beautiful morning smile on her face when she saw me, climbed into my lap, and just wanted me to hold her. I could have sat there for hours. Just Anna Kate and me…
Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy the time that I have with just her now because it’s all going to change when the new baby gets here. So I think I will, one morning moment at a time.

It's a...

GIRL! Emmalee Rae Jackson will be joining our family in August 2011. Kyle feels so outnumbered! He and I are both so excited to put a name to this growing bump. We cannot wait to meet her and introduce Anna Kate to her sweet new sister.
Looking at the screen at the baby
Telling her that it is a girl.
AK, what do you think about your new baby sister? Just kidding
In the end everyone was happy. (We hope!)

A Walk and the Petting Zoo

Yesterday when I returned home from a glorious day at work I picked Anna Kate up from her Aunt Katie’s house. I bribed her to leave by promising a walk outside. When we got back to our house she was so excited! It made me happy that she wanted to spend time with me. Then I realized that it wasn’t me, it was her being excited about being outside. Oh well!
We grabbed the camera and set out to take a lovely stroll around the pond. Anna Kate was running towards the pond because she saw the ducks. She was ready to pounce on them! I had to rein her back in because her Daddy said that we can’t scare the ducks all the time. However, that didn’t really help because they saw her coming. Apparently Anna Kate now strikes fear in the hearts of those poor little creatures! We made it about halfway around the pond when AK’s eyes fell upon the dock that goes out into the pond. I don’t know if she has just never noticed it before, or it’s the first time she thought that she would have a chance to get out there but she was pumped. We went out on the dock… AK almost fell off a few times. It was great (stressful) fun.
She kept trying to walk on the water to see the ducks. I told her that we weren’t Jesus and I was not planning on swimming today. She didn’t like that at all, but accepted it. We turned around and headed to see her puppies, chickens, roosters, rabbit, and guinea (a bird). Yes, we are running a petting zoo here people. Feel free to drop by for a visit anytime. Anna Kate particularly loves to taunt the roosters. The dogs still scare her a little. We tried to chase the guinea, but it flew into a tree.
Trying to get down to the water to walk out and see the ducks!
I like this picture except the fact that I look sickly.
The rooster crowed and it scared her!
She tried to go into the chicken pen over and over.
After our trip to the zoo we made our way to the slide for a little play time. Every time we go near the slide/swing area she wants to swing. Her Daddy has a boat pulled under the shed…right where her swing is. She asks to swing every day. I try to explain why she can’t. It doesn’t seem to really register. So we cry for a minute (Anna Kate out of sorrow, Mommy out of desperation because Anna Kate won’t stop) and then our ADD kicks in and she yells “Slide” and takes off. AK slid over and over again and then I got tired so we had to go inside. AK was NOT pleased with me when I said that we had to go in, so the crying broke out again. My back was hurting to badly to care, so I was the mean mommy and made her go inside and cry it out!
Why oh why won't you move that pesky boat Daddy?
P-p-p-please don't do this to me!

Finding out in T-minus 2 hours! Will let you know the results…Boy or Girl? Guess…

18 Weeks!

How Far Along: 18 weeks

Weight Gain: Gained 4 lbs

Maternity Clothes: I don’t have to wear them…but…they sure are comfortable!

Sleep: Getting more uncomfortable, especially with a little girl trying to kick me off the bed.

Baby Movement: I feel some flutters!

Food Cravings: Spring Mix Greek Salads and Icee Pops

What I Miss: My back not hurting.
Stretch Marks: None from THIS pregnancy!

Mom-to-Be:  I don’t feel exhausted all the time which is good. My belly popped out this weekend. it’s throwing my walk off a little bit.

Looking Forward To: Finding out the baby’s gender tomorrow! Letting Anna Kate feel the baby move.

Milestones: As your growing uterus starts shifting your center of gravity (belly forward, bottom out), hormones are causing your ligaments to relax and joints to loosen. The result? Back pain and soreness. On the bright side, if you want to know baby's gender, this might be your first week for a sneak peek. (Can’t Wait!!)

No belly shot today...I'm saving that for the gender reveal either tomorrow or Friday!

Can't Focus... Too Excited!

If this post is a little nutty and scattered please don’t hold it against me. I am so excited about finding out what our sweet new baby is going to be! I’ve just been thinking about it and thinking about it. Kyle is just as excited as I am. I know that we both will be excited no matter what the sex of the baby is, but I know that Kyle would LOVE to have a son.  We will truly be happy either way and are so thankful that the Lord has blessed us with another precious life.
Now about our busy weekend… We began this wild ride with Kyle taking Anna Kate and me to supper with some of friends/family that Kyle works with. It was so good to see everyone. Anna Kate was especially excited to see Ms. Anslee  H. She is one of Anna Kate’s favorite big girls.
On Saturday AK and I woke up early and got ready to go for a visit our friends Aunt Krystal and her new baby MaKenna. Anna Kate was instantly in love with MaKenna. Every facial expression or movement that MaKenna made Anna Kate’s face lit up with surprise and awe. (After seeing AK with her it makes me ever hopeful of her reaction to our new baby!) She held MaKenna almost the entire time that we were there. Not even the distraction of two rippin’ and roarin’ little boys (Krystal and Zach’s nephews) could take Anna Kate’s attention away. I got to hold her approximately 12 minutes total because AK just had to have her. When we got ready to go Anna Kate was very upset, but I eased her sadness by letting her know that we would see her Grammy when we got home. She perked up shortly after.

We got home at around 3:30 p.m. AK had fallen asleep on the way home woke up shortly after we arrived. AK and I went outside for a minute and what did my silly little 20 month old see? Our two pet ducks were in the yard! Anna Kate gets so excited whenever she sees the ducks. They fascinate her, but that’s not her only attraction. Can you guess what excites this mischievous little girl the most? She likes to chase the ducks and make them fly away. The poor ducks just keep coming back. AK LOVES it!
I couldn't get a picture of her and the ducks flying too!

Sunday we went to church got to witness an amazing event take place. A family in our church baptized the father in the family and dedicated their sweet new little baby. It was a wonderful day…UNTIL… Anna Kate and I took a trip with Grammy (Kyle’s mom) to Lowe’s Hardware, Home Depot, Sally’s, Target, and Khol’s. It was a LONG afternoon.  Anna Kate was plumb tuckered out. So was I.
We had a nice family supper and began trying to make our sleep time adjustments after Daylight Savings time. Something happened while trying to get AK to sleep that hasn't happened in almost a year and a half. Anna Kate wanted her Daddy to hold her and get her to sleep instead of me. I gave her most of her night time bottle, so I didn't miss out on too much time, but she wanted her Daddy. I think that it made Kyle's day for her to want him instead of me. I was happy for him (and secretly happy for a break). They were precious holding each other. AK was playing with his hair just before I took this picture. When she finally relaxed and went to sleep this is how content they looked.
